Union Secure First Preseason Win over Tampa Bay

In Game two of the SunCoast Invitational yesterday, the Union had the chance to take on a new opponent. The Union took on NASL’s own Tampa Bay Rowdies. The Rowdies are the only non-MLS team in the preseason tournament this year and are known for having former American soccer prodigy Freddy Adu on their roster. Meanwhile, the Union looked to redeem themselves after their 1-1 tie against the D.C. United this past week.

The Union like their first game, started off the scoring as their first goal came in the 17th minute. It was a trilaist to trialist connection as Union trialist Ilsinho played in a wonderful ball off of a corner kick to another trialist in defender Ken Tribbett, who headed the ball just over the goal line for the goal.

Then just 12 minutes later, Union midfielder Leo Fernandes struck home another wonderful placed pass (this time on the ground) from Ilsinho to give the Union a 2-0. Despite a great shot from the Rowdies in the second half, new Union goalkeeper Matt Jones was able to get a hand on it to keep the game at 2-0.

It was a great win for the Union, but there’s only one thing on the Union fans’ minds now a days and that is Ilsinho. The midfielder has dazzled and wowed the staff and fans to the point, where many Union fans are begging the Union to sign him. As the tournament moves on it’s looking more and more like Ilsinho as well as defender Ken Tribbett will be the newest Union signings. The other day, the Union signed 2nd round pick Taylor Washington, and now it’s time for the Union to hopefully sign these two new players. Tribbett and Ilsinho will most likely be on display as they take on the New York Redbulls in an exhibition (not Suncoast Invitational) game in Clearwater on Wednesday at 7 PM.
