César Hernandez has gotten off to a hot start at the plate with a statistical rise in nearly every batting category when compared to his career stats. Hernandez seems to be filing into the leadoff role better than most fans, and even the coaching staff expected. A more patient approach from new hitting coach Matt Stairs has seemed to benefit the team and Hernandez thus far.
After significant strides forward in the second half of 2016, Hernandez has continued to add to his arsenal. the Phillies second basemen has already notched three home runs and is currently batting .346 – good enough for top 20 in the league.
César has also contributed nicely on the bases, scoring a league best 13 runs. At just 26 years old, his development this season could be the gateway to his career as a Phillie. If he continues to impress, Hernandez will be looking to get paid next season.
