Eagles vs. Bears: Week 12 Predictions

The Eagles return home for the first time in three weeks to face a Chicago Bears team trying to retool. The Bears have surprisingly slowed down some vaunted offenses this season, holding the Falcons, Steelers, Panthers, and Saints to 23 points or less (17.25 ppg). The Eagles, on the other hand, look to set a franchise record for consecutive games of scoring 30 or more (averaging 38.75 points the last 4 games) Although just 3-7 on the season, rookie QB Mitch Trubisky provides Chicago with a bit of an unknown heading into this game. Philadelphia is a big favorite this week. Here is the crew’s predictions for the game.

Tyler Edgerton (9-1)

The Eagles are favored by two touchdowns in the game and should win convincingly on Sunday. They are simply too consistent for a letdown. The one aspect of the game I believe all Eagles fans would agree with is that the Eagles offense needs to start games quicker. Defensively, the Eagles will once again have to contain a mobile quarterback and shut down the NFL’s 3rd best rusher in Jordan Howard. This shouldn’t be an issue as we’ve seen all season because the defense makes teams one dimensional in play calling.

Even though the Bears hold a 3-7 record, their defense can be very opportunistic. Chicago has recovered 8 fumbles (tied for 3rd best in NFL), and have converted half of their interceptions into pick-sixes. The Bears, however, rank bottom 5 in almost every offensive passing category. Expect this game to be another double-digit win for the Eagles behind a favorable turnover differential en route to a 10-1 record.

Final Prediction: Eagles 27, Bears 16

Joe Fabiani  (9-1)

The Eagles come into this game as a heavy favorite but can’t let that distract them against a Bears team that plays aggressive defense. Flying high off of last week’s victory in Dallas the Eagles defense has to come ready to shut down the run. The Bears rank 5th in the league in total rushing. Last week they allowed Dallas to combine for 112 yards on 27 carries. The passing defense should be able to shut down the Bears passing offense as they really don’t have a viable passing threat. It should also be noted this will be Alshon Jeffery’s first game against his former team. Look for him to make an impact. Also, look for Fletcher Cox and Timmy Jernigan to have big games today as they try to shut down one of the leagues top rushing attacks.

If the Eagles come in and play their game and don’t play down to the Bears level, they should win easily.

Final Prediction: Eagles 27, Bears 10

John Purificato  (9-1)

Coming off their total domination over Dallas, the Eagles must not take their opponent lightly because the Bears can play some serious defense. This Bears team can really set the edge and shut down a running game. The Bears biggest threat on offense is their running back tandem of Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen who is Sproles-like. However, this Eagles defense continues to stuff the opponents running attack on a weekly basis. Mitch Trubisky is athletic and can run the read-option well, but is a very average passer who will see a lot of pressure from this defensive front.

This Bears team has been able to bring a few good teams down to their level this season, but this Eagles team provides them with their toughest challenge in 2017. The Eagles have been great at home under Doug Pederson (12-1) since he took the job and the trend continues Sunday. The offense is balanced and looking pretty good, but this game will be all about defense.

Final Prediction: Eagles 27, Bears 13

Matthew Scott  (8-2)

Much like the Cowboys the week before them, I don’t think the Chicago Bears are much trouble for the NFL’s best team, the Philadelphia Eagles. The Bears are much better than expected with Mitchell Trubisky at the helm instead of Mike Glennon even though Trubisky is a rookie. The Bears also have an above average defense that keeps them in games for 2-3 quarters.

If the Eagles stick with a balanced running attack featuring LeGarrette Blount, Jay Ajayi and even Corey Clement, it will be an easy with for the birds. Carson goes for 289 yards with 3 TDS in another blow out win over Chicago to get one step closer to clinching a playoff spot and the NFC East.

Final Prediction: Eagles 31, Bears 13

Tylar Pomroy  (8-2)

After a week of making the Cowboys look like a burning pile of garbage, the Eagles look for another easy game against the 3-7 Chicago Bears. This matchup screams trap game and the 14 point spread against the Eagles reeks of bad luck. Nevertheless, they shouldn’t have much trouble dealing with a rookie quarterback in an offense that can never control a game. Trubisky’s only thrown four touchdowns so far this season (6 games) and the running game only shows up every other week – last week their leading back ran for over 100 yards. Meanwhile, the birds have been thriving in every aspect as their offense continues to outperform themselves while the defense overcomes injury every week.

Battered, bruised, and against all odds, the Birds have proven that they’re the best team in football. Sooner or later this winning streak will come to end but this won’t be the game where that happens. Bears-Eagles will be a game short of upsets and full of what we’ve seen before. Will the Bears cover the spread? There’s no guarantee of a blowout but the Birds do have a bounty on their head.

Final Prediction: Eagles 27, Bears 10

Brett Santos  (5-5)

The 3-7 Bears are riding rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky who has looked average at best this season. The Bears most dangerous weapon on offense is running back Jordan Howard who has carried the ball 15 or more times in every contest since week 3 including a week 6 game where he toted the rock 36 times. Fortunately for the Eagles, stopping the run has been where they are dominant defensively. The Eagles still rank at the top of the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game and second in touchdowns allowed(4). Howard makes the Bears offense go and if he is not effective, the Bears struggle.

Offensively, the Eagles rushing attack has found its stride. With the constant rotation of backs and formations, teams have simply not been able to stop the Eagles backs lately. While it won’t be late December weather, the temperature will be fairly cool at game time and I see the Eagles running the ball once again. Although many believe this is a trap game, the way the Eagles are playing will allow them to put together another dominant victory.

Final Prediction: Eagles 35, Bears 20
